Jenn's Take: A Resident's Perspective on Jasper National Park Campgrounds

In the article, Jenn comes right out the bat and reveals that her perspective is coming from a place of bias as she is a resident of Jasper. She breaks down the campsite options into two sections, places where you can reserve a spot and those where you can not. Jenn is very concise and straightforward and lets readers know that the system for booking reservations at the Jasper National Park in 2023 opens on March 16 at 8 am. While also sending out a word of caution that spots fill up quickly. Her affiliation to this topic is obvious as she goes on a personal antidote about reservations: “ The camping spots fill up fast. Like, really fast! Last year I was on my computer 10 minutes after the reservation system opened and many of the popular campgrounds were already 75% full.”

After this, Jenn begins to break down the campsite options, the first being the Whistlers Campground. The largest campground with almost 800 sites and within close proximity to town it has various resources like water, sewage, electricity, shower facilities et cetera. There are also bike trails that make it easy to travel to and from Jasper.

Another notable campsite option is the Wapiti Campground, the second largest campground with around 350 sites. Due to close proximity to town, it has resources like electricity, running water, and flush toilets. Wapiti is right beside the Athabasca River and has a beautiful walking path along the river and a bike trail. Unfortunately, over the winter of 2020/21, many dead trees were removed and it has left the campground looking “quite ravaged”. This is an important note because in the summer trees for shade are a necessity.

All in all, this is an excellent review by Jenn as her first-hand experience is evident throughout the article.
